Yemeni Civil Status Authority Introduces National ID Number for Children from Birth
The Civil Status and Civil Registry Authority of Yemen's Ministry of Interior announced on Saturday, July 11, 2026, the launch of a service allowing children to obtain a National Identification Number from birth until the age of 12, upon the request of the child's parent.
In a statement reviewed by Yemen's Children Platform, the Authority said that the National ID Number is assigned as a permanent identification number that will accompany the child throughout all official transactions. The same number will later be used on the child's smart national identity card once they reach the legal age of 16, when they become eligible to obtain it.
The Authority explained that the National ID Number is permanent and never changes throughout a person's lifetime. It is also never reassigned to another individual, even after the holder's death, as it forms part of the electronic civil registry system, contributing to more accurate and well-organized civil identity records.
