Minister of Social Affairs Discusses Preparations with UNICEF for International Conference to Support Implementation of Child Protection Plan
Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Mukhtar Al-Yafei met today in the interim capital, Aden, with Hussein Attar, Head of the Child Protection Section at the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), to discuss arrangements for activating and implementing the Child Protection Plan, as well as preparations for an international conference aimed at expanding partnerships and mobilizing the necessary support for implementing the plan in phases.
Minister Al-Yafei stressed the importance of expanding the network of partners and relevant international stakeholders and engaging with the World Bank, the European Union, and Arab entities. He noted that implementing the plan also requires benefiting from the expertise and successful experiences of partners, which would enhance implementation efficiency and maximize the use of accumulated knowledge and experience.
Al-Yafei expressed his appreciation for the level of coordination between the ministry and UNICEF, describing the organization as a key partner in several areas of the ministry’s work. He affirmed the ministry’s readiness to continue coordination and mobilize its technical team and available expertise to contribute to preparations for the conference and the development of its materials, strengthening an effective and sustainable partnership that supports implementation of the plan and achievement of its objectives.
For his part, the UN official explained that the Child Protection Plan was developed as an overarching framework to guide child protection professionals working in Yemen. He noted that implementation will take place in phases, with the government identifying the needs and priorities for each phase. He reaffirmed continued coordination with the ministry to complete preparations for the conference and develop materials that contribute to supporting implementation of the plan.
