Shabwa – Child and his father drown in Wadi Balharith floods in Asilan District

A child, Dhiab Abdulkarim bin Mubarak Al-Matash, and his father, Abdulkarim Al-Matash, a medical assistant, died on Friday after being swept away by flash floods in Wadi Balharith, northwest of Shabwa governorate.

According to media sources, the tragedy occurred as torrential floods swept through the valley, leading to the drowning of both father and son in a heartbreaking incident that shook the local community.

Monitoring by Yemen’s Children Platform shows that the death toll of children from floods and lightning strikes since early August has risen to 15 children across several Yemeni governorates.

Experts have urged residents to avoid riverbeds and flood channels during heavy rains to protect their safety and prevent similar tragic accidents.
