One-Year-Old Girl Among Those Injured in Shelling of Displacement Camp in Marib

One-year-old Mira Adam Ali Mohammed was injured by shrapnel to the face and head following shelling that targeted the Jaw Al-Naseem and Al-Mail displacement camps in Yemen’s Marib Governorate on Friday morning, according to the Musawah Organization for Rights and Freedoms.

The organization said Mira was among the civilians affected by the attack on Jaw Al-Naseem camp, which shelters displaced people who fled their homes due to the conflict. It reported that the child sustained shrapnel injuries to her face and head.

The Musawah Organization condemned the targeting of displacement camps, describing the attack as a violation of international humanitarian law. It called for an independent and transparent investigation into the incident, the identification of those responsible, and accountability for the attack.

Mira’s injury, at just one year old, highlights the risks faced by children in displacement camps, which are supposed to provide safe shelter for civilians forced to flee their homes because of conflict.

The organization called on the United Nations and relevant international bodies to document the attack, strengthen measures to protect civilians and displaced people—particularly children—and ensure that those responsible for violations are held accountable.
