Head of Seiyun Appeals Prosecution Discusses Strengthening Protection for Children in Conflict with the Law in Hadramout
The Head of the Seiyun Appeals Prosecution, Judge Fouad Jaber Laradhi, held a coordination meeting on Wednesday at his office with Judge Faiza Bahamdeen, Chair of the Coordinating Committee for the Juvenile Justice Project in Hadramout, in the presence of representatives from relevant stakeholders, to discuss mechanisms for strengthening the protection of children in conflict with the law and improving the juvenile justice system in the governorate.
The meeting was attended by Ahmed Bahashwan, Director General of the Office of Social Affairs and Labour in Wadi and Desert Hadramout, Ghazi Marei, representative of civil society organizations, and Abeer Abdullah Baghaith, a member of the Coordinating Committee.
Discussions focused on several issues related to the Juvenile Justice Project, particularly strengthening guarantees for the care, rehabilitation, and reintegration of children in conflict with the law in accordance with applicable national legislation. Participants also reviewed the main challenges faced by the relevant authorities in handling juvenile cases.
The meeting further addressed the conditions at the Juvenile Care Home on the Hadramout Coast and the difficulties associated with transferring juveniles from the Wadi and Desert districts to the facility after court rulings are issued, along with the resulting logistical and social challenges.
Participants emphasized the importance of enhancing coordination between the Public Prosecution, relevant authorities, and the local government, and of developing practical solutions to existing challenges. Key recommendations included establishing a temporary juvenile detention facility in the Wadi and Desert districts and providing appropriate transportation to improve care and rehabilitation procedures.
At the conclusion of the meeting, participants reaffirmed their commitment to continued joint coordination to strengthen the juvenile justice system and enhance measures that protect children and support their reintegration into society, in line with the law and the principles of restorative justice.
