Hajjah: Two Displaced Children Killed and Others Injured in Grenade Explosion Inside IDP Camp
Two displaced children were killed and two other people injured on Sunday, August 2, following the explosion of a hand grenade inside an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in the Bani Mishtah area of Hajjah Governorate, western Yemen. Local sources said the incident stemmed from a family dispute.
According to the sources, a man identified as Jameel Ahmed Ghalib Nasser (30) allegedly threw a hand grenade at one of his relatives following a family disagreement, causing it to explode inside the camp.
The explosion killed a one-and-a-half-year-old girl and Hani Nashwan Bajash Abdo (10), while two other people were injured, including the alleged perpetrator.
The incident highlights the grave dangers faced by displaced children living in IDP camps, where armed violence, the widespread availability of weapons, and family conflicts continue to put children's lives and safety at serious risk. It also underscores the urgent need to strengthen child protection measures and ensure safe environments for all children.
