Child Killed and Two Others Injured in Firearm Misuse Incidents in Shabwah, Taiz, and Abyan

A 13-year-old child was killed on the first day of Eid al-Adha in an accidental shooting incident involving firearm misuse, while two other individuals were injured in separate gun-related incidents in the governorates of Shabwah, Taiz, and Abyan.

Police in Habban District, Shabwah Governorate, reported that 13-year-old Abdul Malik Mohammed Ali Lajdaa died after being struck by a gunshot to the right side of his chest. The incident occurred while a 23-year-old man, identified by the initials R.A.A.L., was test-firing a firearm, and the victim happened to pass through the area.

Police stated that an investigation has been opened into the case and that the victim’s body was transferred to the hospital morgue pending legal procedures. Authorities attributed the incident to negligence and unsafe handling of firearms without observing the necessary safety measures and precautions.

Meanwhile, police in Khanfar District, Abyan Governorate, reported an accidental shooting involving M.M.A., 35, who injured himself while cleaning his personal firearm. He sustained a gunshot wound to his right thigh after failing to follow proper firearm safety procedures.

In a related incident, police in the Al-Dhabab area of Taiz Governorate reported that a 35-year-old man, identified as H.A.M.M., was shot in the leg when A.M.M.M.S., 23, fired shots randomly. The gunfire injured the victim and also struck an electricity pole.

Authorities stated that the suspect has been detained pending further legal proceedings and investigation into the case.
