Lahj Governor Directs Establishment of Support Fund for Malnutrition and Neonatal Centers, Discusses Strengthening Healthcare Services
Lahj, Yemen – Lahj Governor Murad Al-Halmi chaired an expanded meeting today with the Director General of the Governorate Health and Population Office, Dr. Khaled Al-Jaber, to discuss practical steps aimed at improving healthcare services and expanding specialized medical care across the governorate.
The meeting focused primarily on urgent measures to establish and equip a specialized center for the treatment of malnutrition and the care of newborns, as part of the local authority’s strategy to reduce malnutrition rates and lower newborn mortality across the governorate’s districts.
Governor Al-Halmi directed the formation of a technical committee and the development of an action plan to begin procedures for establishing the “Lahj Governorate Malnutrition and Neonatal Centers Support Fund.” He stressed that the fund should serve as a sustainable source of support for improving the infrastructure of these vital facilities and for providing essential medicines, medical supplies, and nutritional assistance to ensure the delivery of continuous, high-quality services for children and newborns.
He reaffirmed that child health and nutrition remain among the local authority’s top priorities, praising the efforts of healthcare professionals and emphasizing the importance of intensifying field activities to ensure healthcare services reach all targeted areas.
For his part, Dr. Khaled Al-Jaber reviewed the technical and logistical requirements needed to establish the center, expressing appreciation for the governorate leadership’s ongoing support and commitment to addressing challenges facing the health sector.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Suhair Al-Shatari, Director of the Malnutrition Program at the Governorate Health Office, and Saadan Al-Yafei, Director General of the Governorate Information Office
