Prominent Participation of a Yemeni Child in the Alexandria International Short Film Festival
The Yemeni child, Saleh Moaz Bakarman, marked a notable حضور in the 12th edition of the Alexandria International Short Film Festival 2026, after being selected from a large pool of applicants to take part in a children’s short film production workshop, which included only 20 participants.
During the workshop, Saleh underwent a comprehensive training experience that combined practical learning with teamwork. He received intensive training in screenwriting, editing techniques, lighting, and camera use, in addition to developing his filmmaking skills under the supervision of a group of specialists in the Children’s Cinema Project.
Saleh showcased his talent by participating as a writer and director of his short film titled “Not Safe,” which addresses the risks of electronic games on children and the potential behavioral and social issues they may cause. The film reflects an early artistic awareness and a distinctive creative vision.
The film was screened alongside the works of other participants at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and Amir Cinema, where the children’s productions received wide acclaim for their artistic quality. The event is set to conclude with an official awards ceremony tomorrow at the Alexandria Opera House, celebrating the young talents who took part in the workshop.
Saleh is the only Yemeni participant in this edition of the festival, making his participation a significant achievement that highlights his talent and his ability to represent Yemen in a distinguished manner at one of the most prominent Arab film festivals.
Saleh’s artistic journey began early, with his participation in the play “Hungry, But” directed by Mohamed Taleb with the Light and Shadow troupe in August 2025, rehearsed at the Yemeni Cultural Center in Cairo. He also took part in the play “Everyone Must Be Careful,” continuing today to confidently advance his path in the world of cinema and creativity.
