Human Rights Report: Hundreds of Children Victimized by Sniper Attacks on Civilians in Taiz Over More Than a Decade of Conflict

A recent report issued by Justice for Rights and Development Organization has revealed alarming figures regarding violations affecting children in Taiz Governorate, within the context of ongoing sniper attacks targeting civilians over the past years.

According to the report, children under the age of 18 constituted a significant proportion of the victims, with a total of 440 cases out of all documented sniper incidents between March 2015 and the end of April 2026. These cases include both injuries and fatalities, with children accounting for 27.5% of the injured and 19.4% of those killed.

These figures highlight the scale of risks faced by children in conflict zones, as they are among the most vulnerable groups. They are often present in open civilian environments or engaged in daily activities, making them directly exposed to sniper fire.

The report noted that the targeting of children falls ضمن a recurring pattern of violations against legally protected civilian groups under international humanitarian law, raising serious concerns about deliberate targeting or failure to take necessary precautions to protect them.

Justice Organization emphasized that the continued fall of children as victims of sniper attacks reflects a lack of deterrence and accountability mechanisms, underscoring the urgent need for international action to ensure their protection and to halt such violations.

The report calls for prioritizing violations against children within international investigations, ensuring immediate protection measures, and holding perpetrators accountable, in order to prevent recurrence and safeguard the future of children in Yemen.
