Five Children Killed, Eight Others Injured in Explosive Ordnance Blast in Al-Dhalea

The children killed were Aiham Waleed Abdulsalam (4), Malik Emad Hassan (11), Angham Waleed Abdulsalam (5), Mohammed Ali Mohammed, and a fifth child whose identity has not yet been officially released. Eight other children sustained varying degrees of injuries after an explosive remnant of war detonated on Monday afternoon in Al-Raybi village, north of Hajar district in Al-Dhalea Governorate.

According to preliminary information, the explosion occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. The explosive device is believed to have been a remnant of war left behind by the Houthi group. The injured children were transferred to the field hospital for treatment, with several reported to be in critical condition.

Following the incident, Al-Dhalea Governor Major General Ahmed Qaed Al-Qobah instructed health authorities to raise the level of emergency preparedness and ensure immediate medical care for the injured. He also called on international organizations and demining agencies to intensify efforts to clear landmines, unexploded ordnance, and other explosive remnants of war, while expanding community awareness programs to protect civilians—especially children—from their dangers.
