The Ministry of Legal Affairs and Human Rights Concludes Training Course on International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights in Aden

The Ministry of Legal Affairs and Human Rights concluded today in the interim capital, Aden, a specialized training course on international humanitarian law and international human rights law during armed conflicts. The training was organized in partnership with Geneva Call and supported by the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO), and took place from October 7 to 9, 2025.

The course brought together 30 participants, including members of the Joint Technical Committee to Prevent Child Recruitment from the governorates of Aden, Lahj, Abyan, Al-Dhalea, and Taiz, along with several ministry coordinators and staff in the governorates. Participants received both theoretical and practical training on key concepts and principles of international humanitarian law, the relationship between international law and local and Islamic customs, mechanisms for protecting children in times of conflict, and strategies for preventing and responding to child recruitment.

In his closing remarks, Nabil Abdelhafidh, Deputy Minister of Legal Affairs and Human Rights for Partnership and International Cooperation, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Geneva Call for its productive cooperation and continuous support in strengthening the ministry’s legal and human rights capacities. He emphasized that such training programs enhance the performance of ministry personnel and committee members, and deepen their understanding of international mechanisms for protecting human rights during armed conflicts.

“We value our ongoing partnership with Geneva Call and the generous support of the German Federal Foreign Office,” Abdelhafidh said. “We believe that promoting knowledge of international humanitarian law is fundamental to protecting civilians—especially children—from the consequences of armed conflict. We will continue our efforts to raise public and institutional awareness on the need to end child recruitment and ensure their return to schools and safe environments.”
