The Deputy Governor of Hadramout for the Wadi and Desert Districts, Jamaan Barbaa, inaugurated today the second phase of the "Enhancing Immunization Coverage for Unvaccinated Children in Vaccine-Hesitant Communities" project. The initiative is being implemented by the Yemen Family Care Association (YFCA) in partnership with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and with support from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.

The project targets the districts of Seiyun, Tarim, Al-Qatn, and Shibam in Hadramout Governorate and aims to strengthen efforts to protect children from vaccine-preventable diseases and outbreaks through expanded immunization coverage.

Deputy Governor Barbaa praised the ongoing partnership between health authorities and supporting organizations in implementing high-impact programs designed to raise community awareness about the importance of childhood immunization. He affirmed the local authority's commitment to providing all necessary support and facilitation to ensure the project's success and achieve its humanitarian and public health objectives, contributing to the protection of children and the improvement of public health indicators across the community.

For their part, Dr. Hani Al-Amoudi, Director of the Public Health and Population Office for Wadi and Desert Hadramout, and Jaafar Bin Ubaidallah, Director of the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), highlighted the significant achievements made by immunization campaigns over the past years.

Meanwhile, the project's coordinator, Dr. Saleh Al-Tamimi, outlined the objectives of the second phase, which focuses on strengthening community awareness, reaching unvaccinated children, and increasing vaccine uptake in the targeted districts through collaboration with health authorities, government institutions, and community stakeholders.

On the sidelines of the launch, Deputy Governor Barbaa also inspected the vaccine storage facility and reviewed the procedures for preserving and storing vaccines in accordance with approved health standards and regulations. He received a briefing from EPI Director Jaafar Bin Ubaidallah on the cold chain system and the measures in place to ensure the quality and safety of vaccines until they reach beneficiaries in the targeted districts.
