Five Children Killed After Being Swept Away by Heavy Rains in Mocha, Taiz
The death toll from flash floods in the coastal districts of Taiz governorate has risen to six, including five children who drowned in Al-Mocha district, following a wave of heavy rainfall that struck the area.
Local sources confirmed that Al-Najeeba area in Al-Mocha witnessed the greatest tragedy, with five children swept away by rapidly rising floodwaters. The victims are: Ghaith Awadh Mohammed Ahmed Qafnoon (child), Yaqoob Ali Kulaib Qofli (child), Ru’ya Abdu Mohammed Ahmed Qafnoon (girl), Dima Abdu Mohammed Ahmed Qafnoon (girl), and Sabouha Akram Abdu Ghalib Al-Kabsi (girl).
In Al-Mashalha area of the same district, sources reported the death of an elderly man, Mohammed Salam Al-Bokri, bringing the total number of fatalities from this موجة المطرية to six people.
This tragic incident comes amid ongoing warnings from meteorological authorities urging residents—especially those living in valleys and flood-prone areas—to exercise extreme caution, as a weather depression continues to bring unprecedented rainfall to Yemen’s western coastal regions.
