National Committee: 5,700 Grave Violations Documented Against Children in Yemen

The National Committee for Investigating Allegations of Human Rights Violations in Yemen announced that it has documented 5,700 grave violations against children across various governorates since the outbreak of the armed conflict.

In a statement issued on the occasion of World Children’s Day (20 November), the committee said that direct attacks on civilians accounted for the majority of these violations, with 3,816 children killed or injured, in clear breach of international humanitarian law, which emphasizes the protection of civilians and prohibits targeting them.

The committee added that it recorded 1,368 cases of child recruitment and involvement in hostilities, stressing that the recruitment of children is one of the six grave violations prohibited under international law and national legislation.

The committee also documented 708 children who were killed or injured as a result of landmines and explosive devices, in addition to 125 cases of extrajudicial killing.

Regarding economic and social rights, the committee reported 240 cases of deprivation and discrimination in the right to education, noting that the ongoing conflict has worsened the suffering of children and exposed them to multiple forms of violations.

The committee affirmed that these figures reflect “the severity of the situation children are experiencing in Yemen,” renewing its call on all parties to the conflict to strictly adhere to international humanitarian law and to halt all violations against children. It also emphasized its continued efforts in monitoring and documentation to ensure accountability and justice for victims.
