Interior Ministry: Child Killed, Teenagers Injured in Separate Firearms Incidents Across Three Provinces

The Yemeni Ministry of Interior announced on Thursday the occurrence of three tragic incidents involving firearms and explosive remnants, which resulted in the death of a child and injuries to two teenagers in the provinces of Taiz, Lahj, and Marib.
According to police reports, the first incident took place in the Al-Shamasi area of Taiz city, where a 7-year-old boy died after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head while playing with an automatic rifle inside his family home.
In Lahj province, a teenager sustained injuries to his face and chest after a grenade detonator he was handling exploded in the Yahr district. Meanwhile, in Marib, a 15-year-old girl was injured by a gunshot to her right elbow while mishandling a firearm.
Security authorities attributed the causes of these incidents to parental negligence and the unsafe storage of weapons, allowing children and teenagers access to them—often with tragic consequences.
The Ministry of Interior urged parents and guardians to take full responsibility for securing firearms at home and preventing children from accessing them in order to safeguard the well-being of their families and the wider community.
