Yemeni Women’s Union in Taiz Holds Awareness Session on the Risks of Early and Child Marriage

The Yemeni Women’s Union in Taiz Governorate, in coordination with the local office of 14 October Newspaper, held an awareness session on the risks of early marriage and child marriage, aiming to raise community awareness of the health, psychological, social, and educational consequences associated with the practice.

The session addressed the concepts of early marriage and child marriage, as well as the main causes and factors associated with them. It also discussed the potential risks and emphasized the importance of protecting children and girls, supporting their right to education, and ensuring that they can grow up in a safe environment appropriate to their age and needs.

The session also highlighted the important role of families and communities in reducing the practice by promoting family dialogue, encouraging girls to continue their education, and addressing early marriage as a shared societal responsibility that requires the combined efforts of different stakeholders.

The session was presented by Asil Al-Buraihi, Director of the Taiz Office of 14 October Newspaper, who stressed the importance of intensifying community awareness efforts and utilizing the media to promote messages that contribute to protecting children and girls and reducing practices that may negatively affect their future.

The activity comes as part of ongoing efforts to raise awareness of women’s and children’s protection issues and encourage community participation in preventing the risks associated with early and child marriage.
