Under the patronage of the Minister of Human Rights, Mr. Mashal Mohammed Omar, the Ministry of Human Rights, in partnership with UNICEF, held today in the interim capital Aden a meeting of the Joint Technical Committee for the Prevention of Child Recruitment, within the framework of the Roadmap Project for Preventing Child Recruitment, under the title: “Achievements and Priorities for the Next Phase,” during the period May 20–21, 2026.
At the opening of the meeting, the Deputy Minister, Mr. Nabil Abdulhafeez, delivered a speech reviewing the most significant achievements accomplished during the previous phase. He noted that the meeting discusses the level of implementation of the roadmap, the goals achieved during the past period, as well as the challenges and difficulties faced by the Joint Technical Committee.
The Deputy Minister explained that the meeting also addresses the future plan agreed upon with UNICEF for the upcoming period through evaluating the previous phase and reviewing performance indicators and achieved results, in a way that contributes to strengthening child protection efforts and preventing the recruitment of children into armed conflicts.
He pointed out that the past period witnessed continuous communication with the United Nations Under-Secretary-General responsible for children and armed conflict issues. The meeting also reviewed the report on the situation of children in Yemen and the ongoing violations committed by the Houthi terrorist militias against children, foremost among them recruitment crimes and the exploitation of children on battlefronts.
The Deputy Minister affirmed the Ministry of Human Rights’ commitment to continuing the development of working mechanisms and strengthening coordination with international partners, noting that one of the key upcoming steps will be the establishment of a specialized operations room to monitor and track child recruitment cases and related violations.
The two-day meeting discusses several themes related to evaluating the level of implementation of the roadmap and identifying the priorities of the next phase, in a manner that strengthens efforts to protect children and reinforces relevant national and international commitments.
