Abdulrahman... An Orphaned Child Loses an Eye and Fights for His Life in ICU Following a Houthi Shelling in Northern Taiz

In a harrowing incident reported by exclusive sources to the Yemen Children Platform, 12-year-old Abdulrahman Sadeq sustained severe injuries on Sunday, July 14, 2025, after a projectile launched by the Houthi group exploded in the Al-Arbaeen neighborhood in northern Taiz. The blast caused him to lose one of his eyes and left shrapnel wounds scattered across his body.

Abdulrahman, an orphan, had simply stepped out of his home to meet friends in the neighborhood. He had no idea that a shell would strike and turn a simple, innocent outing into yet another humanitarian tragedy. The explosion targeted him directly, as if childhood itself has become a deliberate casualty in this ongoing war.

Having lost his father years ago and more recently his mother, Abdulrahman was under the care of a kind neighbor who took him in. Now, he lies in the intensive care unit at Al-Safwa Hospital, fighting unimaginable pain alone, with no family by his side—only the compassion of those around him.

This crime once again highlights the grave suffering endured by children in Yemen, where safety and innocence are stripped away daily, amid a heartbreaking lack of international attention to their ongoing plight.
