15-Year-Old Boy Detained Over Alleged Currency Speculation in Taiz

The detention of a 15-year-old boy by a security campaign in the city of Taiz has sparked widespread outrage and criticism, after he was arrested on charges of “currency speculation” while trying to exchange a small sum to buy a mobile phone.
According to informed local sources, the boy, Ibrahim Anis Saeed Mahyoub, has been held for two days at a detention center run by the security authorities in Taiz. He was reportedly trying to exchange 200,000 Yemeni riyals for Saudi riyals in order to purchase a phone from a shop that refused to accept the local currency.
The sources added that the boy happened to be near a money exchange shop when a security patrol vehicle was passing by. He was suddenly stopped, and his motorcycle was confiscated, without verifying his identity or age.
Media sources reported that the boy’s family expressed deep anger over his continued detention, describing the incident as a “clear violation of child rights.” They called on the relevant authorities to immediately release him and hold those responsible for his unlawful arrest accountable.
