Child Killed, Four Others Injured in Hand Grenade Explosion East of Taiz

The child Ali Talib Al-Shammari, aged seven, was killed and four other children were injured when a hand grenade thrown by an armed man exploded in Mawiyah District, which is under the control of the Houthi group, east of Taiz Governorate in southwestern Yemen.

According to local sources, a dispute erupted between two brothers in the district on Saturday and escalated when one of them threw a hand grenade at the other, causing it to explode near a group of children.

The sources confirmed that the explosion resulted in the death of Ali Talib Al-Shammari and injuries to four other children who had no connection to the parties involved in the dispute.

The incident coincided with a similar case in Al-Mahrah Governorate, eastern Yemen, where a woman and her two children were killed as a result of mishandling a hand grenade.

The widespread proliferation of weapons and unsafe handling continues to claim hundreds of victims each year in Yemen, particularly amid the surge in civilian gun ownership during years of war.
