Minister of Health Discusses with UNICEF Strengthening Health Programs to Protect Children in Yemen

The Minister of Public Health and Population, Qassem Buhaibeh, met today in the temporary capital Aden with Peter Hawkins, the representative of United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Yemen, to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in implementing health programs, particularly those related to the health of children and mothers.

The meeting addressed areas of existing partnership between the Ministry of Health and UNICEF, focusing on supporting health programs targeting children, including immunization, nutrition, and malaria control programs, in addition to strengthening primary healthcare services and improving the quality of health services provided to children across various governorates.

Minister Buhaibeh stressed the importance of partnership with UNICEF in supporting the health sector, praising the organization’s role in implementing vital programs that contribute to protecting children’s health and enhancing their access to essential health services.

He also pointed to the ministry’s commitment to expanding cooperation with international partners to help develop health services, especially in light of the health challenges facing Yemen, and to ensure access to healthcare for children and mothers in different regions.

For his part, the UNICEF representative affirmed the organization’s continued support for the health sector in Yemen and its partnership with the Ministry of Health to strengthen immunization, nutrition, and disease control programs, contributing to improving health indicators and enhancing child protection.
