Yemen’s Rainfall Tragedy: 7 Children Dead, 8 Others Injured in Floods and Lightning Strikes

Several Yemeni provinces witnessed tragic incidents in recent hours, claiming the lives of children as a result of flash floods, heavy rainfall, and lightning strikes.

In Amran Governorate, two children died within 24 hours in Al-Asha District. Floodwaters swept away 12-year-old Mohammed Ali Abdullah Al-Shaamli near his home, while Bashar Basheer Yahya Al-Sheikh, from Shadan Sub-district – Al-Shati Village, lost his life after being carried away in Wadi Al-Shurwah.

In Hodeidah Governorate, media sources confirmed the death of Mohammed Abdullah Al-Husseini and another child, in addition to four others who were injured, after being struck by lightning during heavy rains.

In the capital, Sana’a, a 5-year-old child from the Al-Jarrashi family drowned after falling into a water-filled pit on Al-Zubairi Street in the city center.

Meanwhile, in Saada Governorate, one child died and three others, along with an elderly woman, were injured when their home collapsed in the Ghaffrah area of Al-Dhahir District due to torrential rains.

These incidents come amid ongoing seasonal rainfall across various Yemeni provinces. Meteorologists and experts continue to urge families to exercise caution, closely monitor their children, and avoid valleys and flood streams during and after rainfall.
