Violent Domestic Assault in Al-Dhalea Violates the Child Rights Law
Local sources told Yemen’s Children Platform that a nine-year-old girl, identified as (I. F. S. A.), was subjected to a violent domestic assault by her father in Al-Dhalea governorate, resulting in a serious injury suspected to be a spinal fracture The incident is legally classified as a case of physical assault and a grave violation of child rights.
According to the sources, the girl’s family originates from Wasab Al-Aali district in Dhamar governorate and currently resides in Al-Dhalea The assault occurred inside the family home following a domestic dispute, during which tensions escalated after the children returned from school, turning into severe physical violence.
The sources explained that sharp tools were used in the assault, exacerbating the severity of the injuries The incident has sparked widespread condemnation and raised serious concerns about the safety of children within their families.
This assault constitutes a clear violation of Yemen’s Child Rights Law No. (45) of 2002, which guarantees a child’s right to protection from all forms of physical and psychological violence within or outside the family, and obliges the competent authorities to take legal measures to protect children and hold perpetrators accountable It also contravenes the Convention on the Rights of the Child, ratified by Yemen, which mandates the protection of children from all forms of abuse and exploitation.
