UN: 583 Grave Violations Against Children in Yemen in 2024

The United Nations has documented 583 grave violations against 504 children in Yemen during the year 2024, in addition to 204 other violations that occurred in previous years — a reflection of the ongoing abuses and the mounting threats facing children in the country.
The report, released by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, revealed that 2024 marked the worst year for violations against children in conflict zones in nearly three decades, with a staggering total of 41,370 documented cases worldwide.
In his report, Guterres called for the immediate release of children detained by parties to the conflict, urging all actors to ensure their protection and support their reintegration into society.
He also expressed deep concern over the continued shelling and use of heavy weapons in residential areas, stressing that such practices endanger children’s lives and exacerbate their physical and psychological suffering.
