Two Sibling Children Die by Drowning in a Water Pond in Ibb Amid Heavy Rainfall

Two sibling children drowned in a village in Ibb Governorate, central Yemen, amid a wave of heavy rainfall affecting the country.

Local residents said that the two children died yesterday after drowning in a water pond in the “Ahayin” area of Bani Hat district, Al-Udayn Directorate, west of Ibb Governorate.

Residents added that the children were the sons of citizen “Musa Ahmed Mohammed Ali Al-Awadhi.” They drowned in a water pond belonging to the village mosque, while the tragedy left the local community in a state of grief and shock.

The incident comes only days after two other children drowned in floodwaters in the “Nakhla” stream in Sharab Al-Rawna Directorate, northwest of Taiz Governorate.

From time to time, Yemen witnesses tragic drowning incidents during the summer season and ongoing rainfall, particularly in water reservoirs, dams, and uncovered ponds, amid growing calls for closing exposed ponds and taking measures to prevent such tragic accidents.
