Two Children Killed by Lightning Strikes in Yemen’s Raymah Province

Two children died in separate incidents after lightning strikes hit different areas of Bilad al-Taam district in Raymah province, western Yemen.
Local media sources reported that a young girl, Rania Hassan Al-Amri, lost her life when lightning struck her family’s home in the village of Al-Ruqyah. In a separate incident, a boy, Ahmed Mohammed Hadi, was killed by a similar strike in the village of Al-Duha within the same district.
According to monitoring by the Yemen Children Platform, the number of child casualties caused by heavy rains, flash floods, and lightning strikes in August has risen to 30 deaths and more than 11 injuries across various Yemeni provinces.
Specialists have warned of the dangers children face when approaching flood channels or staying in open areas during thunderstorms. They stressed the importance of seeking safe, enclosed places and avoiding trees and metal poles to reduce the risks of lightning strikes.
