Two Children Killed by Lightning Strikes in Al-Hodeidah

Two children were killed on Tuesday after lightning strikes hit different areas of Al-Hodeidah province, in yet another incident underscoring the growing dangers facing children amid increasingly severe weather events in Yemen.

Local sources told Bran Press that the first strike claimed the life of Shaker Mohammed Abkar Basheibesh in the village of Deir Al-Tabish, Al-Qanawis district. The second victim, a 13-year-old girl, died while tending sheep in Deir Khudair, Beit Al-Faqih district.

Recent incidents highlight that children are among the most vulnerable victims, as many spend long hours outdoors in fields and farmlands helping their families, leaving them particularly exposed during thunderstorms.

According to the same sources, the death toll from lightning strikes in Yemen has risen to 97 fatalities since late June, including several children, with the highest numbers recorded in Hajjah, Al-Hodeidah, and Amran provinces.
