Ministry of Health Announces Success of Second Round of Polio Immunization Campaign with 107% Coverage

The Ministry of Public Health and Population has announced the success of the second round of the polio immunization campaign for children under five, conducted across all liberated governorates from September 29 to October 1, 2025, achieving an overall coverage rate of 107% of the targeted population.

Dr. Ali Al-Walidi, Deputy Minister of Health for Primary Health Care, told the Yemen News Agency (Saba) that a total of 1,436,723 children were vaccinated, reflecting widespread community engagement and the commitment of families to protect their children from polio.

Dr. Al-Walidi noted that some governorates recorded particularly high coverage rates, including Al-Hodeidah at 130%, Marib at 123%, Lahj at 116%, and Aden at 105%, while other governorates reported similar rates, confirming the campaign’s broad reach and its success in reaching the majority of targeted children.

He emphasized that immunization teams were able to reach absent and initially hesitant children thanks to meticulous field follow-up, continuous supervision, and cooperation with local and community authorities, highlighting that these results reflect the exceptional performance of field health staff.

He added that the Ministry’s central operations room monitored the campaign minute by minute and provided necessary recommendations to ensure high-quality implementation. Dr. Al-Walidi expressed his gratitude to the field immunization teams and health education and media staff, while appreciating the strong community support and positive engagement of families, local leaders, and religious authorities, which significantly contributed to achieving these remarkable results.
