UNICEF: 3.2 Million Children Out of School in Yemen, Plans to Enroll 172,000 in 2026
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has estimated that around 3.2 million children in Yemen are currently out of school, highlighting a growing education gap in the country.
As part of its 2026 response, UNICEF, in partnership with stakeholders, is working to expand access to education by enrolling more than 172,000 children in formal schooling and early learning programs.
The organization also aims to support the education sector by providing individual learning supplies to over 316,000 students, in addition to delivering training and professional development programs for approximately 1,200 teachers to improve education quality and strengthen learning environments across various regions.
These efforts come amid ongoing challenges facing Yemen’s education sector, underscoring the urgent need to scale up interventions to ensure children’s right to education and prevent further deterioration of the crisis.
